management will typically create its own forums to handle the work of managing the business on a day-to-day basis.

The owners, operating through the Owners Council, create the initial basic organizational structure for each forum. Often, owners will find that organizational aspects of the board are set forth in the organizational documents of the business (typically, the certificate of incorporation and bylaws or code of regulations) but that there is no equivalent for the Family Assembly and Owners Council. Owners creating a new forum will want to spell out:

Goals and tasks of the forum

Membership of the forum

Leadership structure of the forum (e.g., chair, vice chair, secretary, etc., and how they are appointed) and the style of leadership

How often the forum will meet, and whether in person or via conference call or video

How the forum will decide an issue (by consensus, by majority, by supermajority)

How the forum will determine its agenda and keep a record of its discussions and decisions

How the members of the forum will hold themselves accountable (and how the forum will be held accountable by the other forums).
